PRE-LISTENING ACTIVITY

2. "Silent Movies" (Prediction): Use the visual nature of the video to spark academic language.
- The Activity: Before playing the video with sound, play it muted.
- Task: Ask students to describe the setting and the characters' body language. "What are they talking about? How do they feel?"
- Goal: To build schema and prepare the brain for the specific vocabulary they are about to hear.

- The Activity: Learners work in pairs to read the dialogue aloud.
- Extension: Encourage "Shadowing." Have students listen to the videos one last time and try to speak the lines at the exact same speed and intonation as the actors.
- Goal: To improve prosody (the rhythm and melody of speech) and word-linking.

2. Creative Dialogue Expansion:
This moves learners from "reception" (listening) to "production" (writing/speaking).

- The Activity: In pairs, students write extra lines for the characters.
- Intermediate Level: One extra line per character (2 total).
- Upper Intermediate Level: Two extra lines per character (4 total).
- Extension: Have pairs perform their "Extended Version" for another pair. They might also prepare one or two of their own listening comprehension questions. The second pair must listen and identify which lines were original and which were added, and perhaps answer the new comprehension questions.
- Goal: To practice contextual logic and conversational flow.

- The Activity: One student sits with their back to the whiteboard (the "Hot Seat"). The teacher writes one of the vocabulary words (e.g., affordable or deposit).
- Task: Their classmates must describe the words they learned earlier without saying the word itself. The student at front must guess the word(s).
- Goal: To reinforce retention of technical and descriptive terms.
